Brisbane CO2 for 17 December 2023

After a day when levels rose at all three sites, Sunday was a day when they all ended lower than they began, but with no large changes in daily averages.  Today’s second chart is one of many showing that iCO2n’s low-cost equipment gives daily profiles similar to those from much more elaborate and expensive measurement systems. The study compares the CO2 levels obtained from an ‘open-path’ spectrometer apparatus that bounces light from reflectors across a 1.55 km. horizontal distance above Heidelberg with data from a conventional, cavity ring-down spectrometer (‘in-situ’).  Weekdays had higher daytime values than those for the weekend.  By measuring across the city, this method may be more sensitive to emissions than are satellite observations of vertical air columns.
